Intensity of Child Marriage

It's been about 6 years, since I've started living in a metro city. Memories of my hometown, a small town in North Gujarat have started to fade, specially those which I wanted to forget. Like most of us, I have seen many kinds of people. People classified as Elders. Elders who we are supposed to look upon and walk on their path. Unfortunately, there are hypocrites among them. Selfishly orthodox, powerless yet tyrant, who abuse the respect given to them and bring vices of past along with them. Elders, when I refer to them, consist of parents, grand parents and sometimes other relatives too.

When illiteracy, greed and societal obligations take over Elder's minds and hearts so much and they start calling their tyrannical decisions, love and protection of their children, words deny to come out of a sensible human.

A lot of people have this misconception that only India is cursed by the vice of an act like Child marriage. They are wrong though.

Recently a video went viral on the internet, that shook the world.

This video is posted on 8th of July, 2013 translated and provided by Memri TV.

11 year old Nada Al-Ahad who fled from forced marriage arranged by her mother says - 'Some children decided to throw themselves into the sea, they’re dead now. They have killed our dreams, they have killed everything inside us. There’s nothing left. There is no upbringing. This is criminal, this is simply criminal.'

'I'm a human being and I would rather die than get married at this age.'

'Go ahead and marry me off - I'll kill myself,' she warns in the video.

She is a school girl, one of the eight children. She was forced to marry an Yemen expatriate for the greed of down payment her parents received at the time of engagement. In an interview with Yemeni news channel she describes how her parents used her elder sister for money, got her engaged several times for money and delayed the marriage until the groom's side broke off the marriage themselves.

This is one of the many case that came out in light, thanks to the technology and few people with conscience. Many case of forced child marriages happen everyday across the world, but they are not as lucky as Nada is.

Welcome to the Incredible India!

According to a survey by UNICEF, India holds 12th rank which turns out to be 47% in terms of girls population between 20-24% who were married before age of 18. And the numbers aren't decreasing. India consists of 1/3rd of girls around the world who were married before legal age.

So, why do Child Marriages happen?

India is still considered to be under developed country which consists of more than 80% rural areas. Poverty, illiteracy, medieval mindset and obligations of society are common in such places.

Keeping these common problems aside, further research brings out some shocking facts which answers the constant increase in child marriage despite several efforts from human rights and child activists in India.

Pulitzer prize winner, documentary photographer Stephanie Sinclair states in her article that in India, girls are typically matched with boys four or five years older, the husbands may be young men, middle-aged widowers or even abductors who commit rape first.

Such illegal arrange marriage may happen for the following reasons:

  • A girl child might be arrange married to someone without her consent to preserve her chastity. Although, girl wouldn't be sent to her husband's home until puberty, yet she will be considered married and in case her husband dies regardless of her age she will live life of widow.
  • A virgin 8 year old can be exchanged in return of clearance of previous debts.
  • To preserve caste system, a child will be married to someone of his/her caste during his/her infancy. Thus, they cannot even think of marrying a girl/boy outside caste or creed when they develop their own conscience.
  • Unprotected sex and no use of contraception leads to having more children than one poor couple can manage. To ensure other children's future and to have more manageable livelihood, children are given off, even 'sold' in the name of dowry custom.
  • Wars between tribes still occur in rural areas of India. During war time it is wise to have alliances who can support you during crisis. Give your minor aged daughter/son to the tribe you seek alliance from, as a promise and assurance, thus, strengthen bonds with your allies.
  • Protection from abduction, rapes and molestation of a daughter is every father's concern. So, get your daughter married at very young age before her body has started to develop and ensure her safety by hands of her husband.
  • There are still people who live in India and think that an unmarried girl is a bad omen to the whole family. So, both girls and boys are married at a very young age to prevent that bad omen, sometimes even during infancy!
  • If one child/adult is getting married in family, to cut the cost get the other siblings (under 18) married too and spare the expense of having separate occasion for each of them.
Such, reasons and such ill thinking still prevail in today's society while we love our daughters and sisters and want best for her, thinking every father would do and wish the same for her angel. No! These vile practices lead to destruction of future of the child, and only THAT happens.
Consequences

Children are the future of our country, indeed. What happens when children are driven into state where they have no growth or future, only stagnant life. And please remember, this is not about girl child only. A boy child faces apathy too. In today's age when he is supposed to study, explore the opportunities and earn for his better future, he is burdened with family responsibilities because he is now married and must care for his wife. However, it is the girl child who suffers the most.

  • Many girls are forced to marry someone with a huge age difference, sometimes with a guy in his 50s. Life expectancy of most such grooms are very short. He dies and the girl is left with no one to earn for her. She needs to feed herself and in some cases her own children. Such cases often lead to begging and prostitution. If none of the former two options are chosen, the girl lives her life in loneliness and sometimes treated ill by the society.
  • Early marriage of a girl leads to lack of knowledge about sex and reproduction, which leads to pre-mature conceiving. Girls of age 15 are less likely to survive childbirths and thus death of the mother and child are 5 times more likely than a girl of 24 or 25.
  • Young girls married to a guy with huge age difference is most likely to suffer domestic violence. At that age a girl cannot handle all the household chores and thus gets beaten/abused by in laws or husband himself. As opposed to older women, young girls are 13 times more vulnerable to rapes and 3 times more exposed to be beaten. Many girls who are married before legal age show symptoms of sexual abuse or post traumatic stress.
  • Abortions, miscarriages, unwanted pregnancy, rapid pregnancy and extreme depreciation in mother's health is very common when child marriages are practiced. 90% women report to have had no contraception used prior to the birth of first child.
  • Infant born from a mother under age of 18 is less likely to survive more than a year after the birth. Even if the child survives the first year, he suffers from underweight, malnutrition and late physical and cognitive development.

The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006
(courtesy- www.wikipedia.org)

Too young to wed (photo by Stephanie Sinclair)

Coming into effect on 1 November 2007, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA) was put into place to address and fix the shortcomings of the Child Marriage Restraint Act. The change in name was meant to reflect the prevention and prohibition of child marriage, rather than restraining it. The previous Act also made it difficult and time consuming to act against child marriages and did not focus on authorities as possible figures for preventing the marriages. This Act kept the ages of adult males and females the same but made some significant changes to further protect the children. Boys and girls forced into child marriages as minors have the option of voiding their marriage up to two years after reaching adulthood, and in certain circumstances, marriages of minors can be null and void before they reach adulthood. All valuables, money, and gifts must be returned if the marriage is nullified, and the girl must be provided with a place of residency until she marries or becomes an adult. Children born from child marriages are considered legitimate, and the courts are expected to give parental custody with the children's best interests in mind. Any male over 18 years of age who enters into a marriage with a minor or anyone who directs or conducts a child marriage ceremony can be punished with up to two years of imprisonment or a fine.

As a blogger, I am supposed to end this write up with a paragraph. But I don't see how, I can't think of an end because this topic, this issue hasn't ended despite several efforts. I don't want to end this article. I want it to begin now. Thereby, you won't find a period at the end of this sentence

Movies you should watch before you die!

I understand there might be difference of opinion here, but this list is purely according to my favorites. Now I thought of filtering it with genres but that wouldn't serve the purpose of this post, which is to encourage other genre fans to try out new genres.

The list will keep updating as new movies will come up. So don't forget to keep coming back here to find some quality movies.

Note: The following list is un-ordered.

1. Les Misérables:
In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole, agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's daughter, Cosette. The fateful decision changes their lives forever.

This movie in every aspect is well made. The script, the songs, acting, direction, art, camera and the list never ends. Each character is powerful and no matter how short the role is, it has been enacted with gusto. My personal favorite? Javert - The strongest character, yet so simple. Few people found him to be a confused one, but I beg to differ.

Don't wait, if you appreciate a good drama-musical movie - Look Down, to this one.

2. The Shawshank Redemption: Two imprisoned men bond over a number of years, finding solace and eventual redemption through acts of common decency.

This comes under twisted climax genre :) or so I like to call it. I was never a Frank Darabont fan, and then I saw 'The Mist' followed by 'The Green Mile'. He surely knows how to engage the audience and baffle them at the end specially.

Oh and there's Mr. Freeman. If I own a robot, I would definitely prefer its voice to be of Morgan Freeman's. Apart from his dynamic acting, you can never get bored of hearing his dialogues.

3. The Green Mile: The lives of guards on Death Row are affected by one of their charges: a black man accused of child murder and rape, yet who has a mysterious gift.

Another gem from Frank Darabont. Before I say anything about this movie, I want to say I will miss Michael Clark Duncan very much. You sir, were my favorite since I saw you in Daredevil. And after watching this movie? I got no words for you.

The script is so engaging, you will always keep wondering whats gonna happen next. Tom Hanks needs no mentioning, only that this is one of his finest work. Without giving much spoilers this film has one of the most depressing and saddest scene in the history of cinema and is wonderfully executed.

4. The Godfather triology:

If you're here, you are a movie buff. Even if you're not, there is 99.99% possibility that you've already seen this triology. If not then, don't waste any more time. Rent or buy this movie today!

I would only say that The Godfather I, II & III are among most highest rated movies in Imdb.

5. Snatch: Unscrupulous boxing promoters, violent bookmakers, a Russian gangster, incompetent amateur robbers, and supposedly Jewish jewelers fight to track down a priceless stolen diamond.

Among all Guy Ritchie films, I think this is the most well made when it comes to direction. Needless to say all his films are witty, hilarious and full of thrills, but this one stands out from all.

Everything is great but I would like to mention here that the editing is of top notch quality. Brad Pitt's acting was mind blowing, specially in one of the scene which I am sure those you've watched this know which it is. I would rather not give out spoilers here. Jason Statham as 'Turkish' is marvelous.

6. Oldboy: After being kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must find his captor in 5 days.

Dae-su Oh, is kidnapped and kept imprisoned for no reason he knows of, for 15 years. Normally you wouldn't care. But the character of Dae-su is so well made and fed to the audience that you actually would want to find out what must he have done to get that punishment. The movie from the start itself is tight and keeps you on the edge. Its funny at times. Min-sik's acting as Dae-su Oh is mind blowing. Watch out for the action sequences, they are well made and look original.

I highly recommend this one among all Korean movies.

7. The City of God: Two boys growing up in a violent neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro take different paths: one becomes a photographer, the other a drug dealer.

Oh this movie! Reminds me of Slumdog Millionaire but its not. Totally different, totally awesome (not saying SM is bad). The cinematography is unforgettable. Brazil never looked so beautiful. The actors have done terrific job and the direction is just marvelous.

The title suits it so much, you'll understand after watching the movie. A must have in collection.

8. Argo: A dramatization of the 1980 joint CIA-Canadian secret operation to extract six fugitive American diplomatic personnel out of revolutionary Iran.

Ben Affleck, I have always liked you. After watching 'The Town' I knew you had extraordinary potential as a Director. And with this movie you have proved yourself and earned respect of me as well as billion other genuine movie lovers.

Whether you know the climax or not, it is gripping and certainly most nail biting in the history of cinema. The cinematography is superb and the screenplay writer deserves brownie points for this movie. Seriously, go for it!

9. Amélie: Amelie, an innocent and naive girl in Paris, with her own sense of justice, decides to help those around her and along the way, discovers love.

One of the worst mistakes of my life was to ignore this movie despite of its high rating, because I thought its a story about some nerd girl (as the poster had me thinking). But after watching the movie you would wish you had an Amelie in your life, as a friend, sister, wife or whatsoever. Her character is so brilliant and chirpy and witty and full of life that you can't help yourself but to fall in love with Amelie. The movie is funny and Audrey Tautou is the one and only who could have done justice to the character of Amelie, and she does it like none could/would have. Its a feel good movie and will certainly make your heart's heart cry tears of joy. My personal favorite.

10. Forrest Gump: Forrest Gump, while not intelligent, has accidentally been present at many historic moments, but his true love, Jenny Curran, eludes him.

Feeling inferior? Watch this one. This movie certainly is one of the most motivational movies of all time, intended to be so or not. It will make you cry and laugh or maybe even get you up to do something which you've been ignoring because you thought you might fail (my personal experience).

Tom Hanks as 'Forrest' is awesome. The dialogues are natural but powerful. I always watch this one when I am facing failure from all sides.

11. Batman - The Dark Knight: When Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent launch an assault on the mob, they let the clown out of the box, the Joker, bent on turning Gotham on itself and bringing any heroes down to his level.

Two reasons are enough for you to watch this movie over and over again without skipping a single frame: (i) The Joker (ii) Christopher Nolan. Rest in Peace, Sir Heath Ledger for you have escalated the term 'actor' to a new pinnacle.

Hans Zimmer's background score, Christian Bale's acting, Michael Caine as 'Alfred', Heath ledger playing 'The Joker', surely the epicness of this movie cannot be described in words. For all reviewers have failed, so have I. I just wanna say one thing here, even if you don't watch this movie, just owning this movie will be epic within itself.

 12. Downfall: Traudl Junge, the final secretary for Adolf Hitler, tells of the Nazi dictator's final days in his Berlin bunker at the end of WWII.

If you are into war/history movies. This should have already passed your list of watched movies along with 'Saving Private Ryan'. Hitler's character has been always negatively interesting to me since childhood and this movie certainly helped me understand him more.

Bruno Ganz as 'Adolf Hitler' was terrific. The dialogues and script is so engaging that a miss of a second of this movie will make you rewind back. Cinematography and editing is top notch. In all war movies, sound design is very important and I have to say the sound technicians have done a great job.

13. American Beauty: Lester Burnham, a depressed suburban father in a mid-life crisis, decides to turn his hectic life around after developing an infatuation for his daughter's attractive friend.

A strong message is conveyed through this movie. There is nothing beautiful about this one. Its dark, its saddening and its a near perfect movie. Kevin Spacey is awesome. Sam Mendes has done a wonderful job and you feel like each frame is crafted. No matter how much you prepare yourself for the big twist but it will get you, definitely.

Surely, this is a classic for those who love dark dramatic movies.

14. I am Sam: A mentally retarded man fights for custody of his 7-year-old daughter, and in the process teaches his cold-hearted lawyer the value of love and family.

Grab your tissues, this movie is sure to make you cry several times. Sean Penn has done such a beautiful acting that you can't help and watch every moves he makes on the screen. Sean Penn brings you deep inside his character and makes you feel how the character must have.

The story is so beautiful that it makes you watch all over again and again. Highly recommended.

15. King Kong: In 1933 New York, an overly ambitious movie producer coerces his cast and hired ship crew to travel to mysterious Skull Island, where they encounter Kong, a giant ape who is immediately smitten with leading lady Ann Darrow.

Some movies just visually blow you away. This is one of those movies. It takes you to another world. Whether its the thirties of New York or the Skull island (dark, foggy and mysteriously beautiful) Peter Jackson will take you there as if you were there in person.

Naomi Watts has never looked so beautiful, Adrien Broody is wonderful, Jack Black is awesome as the greedy bad guy. The CG is a quality to see. All the action sequences are carefully and marvelously handled. Should be watched on big screen and good sound system in full volume.

16. The Departed: An undercover state cop who infiltrated a Mafia clan and a mole in the police force working for the same mob race to track down and identify each other before being exposed to the enemy, after both sides realize their outfit has a rat.

This is probably Martin Scorsese's best work till date. We all know how Leonardo is good at acting, and so is Matt Damon. But both of them shine here extra ordinarily. The story and the soft and hard twist and turns keeps you engaged through out. Dialogues are razor sharp. And when the climax comes, it blows you away with a grenade.

The soundtrack is awesome. The cinematography suits the theme well and the editing is done skillfully. A must watch for crime/drama/thriller fans.

17. Inglourious Basterds: In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers coincides with a theatre owner's vengeful plans for the same.

Nope, I didn't spell Inglourious Basterds wrong. The title is as such, I don't know the reason behind that. Maybe its Quentin Tarentino playing mind games with the audience. Kill me for this, but I liked this movie better than 'Pulp Fiction'. Reasons? Perfect casting. Christopher Waltz's first sequence where he single handedly thaws you with his dialogue delivery. Brad Pitt's excellent body language as a Basterd. Melaine's wonderful acting left me spell bound. Watch out for the theatre sequence.

It will make you feel that somehow this should have been a true story.

18. Pulp Fiction: The lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption.

This movie's screenplay is, will and always be an example of how a perfect screen writing should be. This movie is not a roller coaster. Its not smooth free way either. This movie is a dirty road, with lots of bumps and turns and pot holes. Surprisingly no matter how dirty the road is, you will love it.

John & Samuel's presence on screen will always cheer you up. Love'em or hate'em, they will get in your mind. Uma Thurman proves her class of acting in this movie. Quentin Tarentino needs no introduction.

19. The Prestige: The rivalry between two magicians is exacerbated when one of them performs the ultimate illusion.

Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige".

Final word? Christopher Nolan. I rest my case.

20. Schindler's list: In Poland during World War II, Oskar Schindler gradually becomes concerned for his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazis.

At the end of this movie I didn't know, whether to feel good or cry. This is one of those movies which makes you feel 'faith in humanity restored'. This is one of those movies which you shall have to sit patiently and watch each and every frame unfold. Some might find interesting if they are watching closely, some might feel bored because of the slow pace. Me personally was busy watching the black and white screen so easily and so soothingly telling me a story which needed to be told and was worth all my time. A lot more than that actually.

If you like Steven Spielberg, you have to watch this.

21. The Secret in their Eyes: A retired legal counselor writes a novel hoping to find closure for one of his past unresolved homicide cases and for his unreciprocated love with his superior - both of which still haunt him decades later.

Don't you hate it when the title of the movie has nothing to do with the story? Well watch this one. This is one of those movies, where you will say in the end, "Oh! So that's why the title is such."

Each and every character is important here. All the actors have done wonderful job. The drama is worth watching. I can't say much about this movie, you have to watch it to see the secret unfold.

22. Like Stars on Earth (Taare Zameen Par): An eight year old boy is thought to be lazy and a troublemaker, until the new art teacher has the patience and compassion to discover the real problem behind his struggles in school.

Again get ready to get your eyes wet. This bollywood flick is like no other. Aamir Khan is known as 'the perfectionist' in bollywood industry for a reason, which you will know after watching this movie.

So spellbound, that the Queen of England invited Mr. Aamir Khan for a lunch to express her thanks for making this movie. Acting, direction, soundtrack, cinematography, dialogues and everything else is top grade. Don't you ever say bollywood is all about actors and actresses dancing around trees.

23. Silver Linings Playbook: After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.

No, this is not a lovey dovey, romantic flick you come across every now and then. This is a hysterical, fun to watch, sad to feel journey with Pat and Tiffany who have their own mental, emotional issues.

This is one of those loud movies where the characters talk so mercilessly fast and everything happens all at the same time on the screen which is very hard to execute as director. Thankfully its carried out wonderfully. You can't just take your eyes off the screen while watching this one. Both Brad and Jenniffer have shown where they belong when it comes to the level of acting.

24. Saving Private Ryan: Following the Normandy Landings, a group of U.S. soldiers go behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in action.

Someone told me that, no one has ever filmed a war movie like Steven Spielberg has filmed Saving Private Ryan. After watching the first 30 minutes of the movie I was ready to punch anyone who said 'this' or 'that' movie is filmed better than Saving Private Ryan. No its not about the gore, no its not about the war action. Its about the whole theme and feel of this movie. Its the whole point of Saving Private Ryan, the journey, where you feel like you indeed need to find and save Pvt. Ryan or kill yourself.

Matt Damon and Tom Hanks do wonderful job. Sound design and camera work guys, hats off to you for this one.

The list is yet to go long way ... Stay tuned for more movies, till then watch the above mentioned :)

Can Like or Share on Facebook save someone's life?

Not even Mark Zuckerberg thought that his revolutionary creation, universally known as Facebook will go beyond socializing. Way beyond. So much, that these days Facebook has become an important tool for saving lives and donating a dollar to the needy!

Bitch please, if doing good was as easy as clicking like/share or if saving life was as comfortable as sitting on your butt and pushing buttons then we wouldn't need politicians or government bodies, would we? Researchers of Cambridge University say that if you prefix 'researchers say...' at any sentence people will blindly believe you most of the time. Like you just did. Sadly we have become so addicted to comfort and spoon feeding that we don't mind eating sugar coated bullshit as long as it satisfies our appetite. Making things worse the tool called Facebook is so popularly used to defame/harass/bother someone that people these days trust any source which might be bogus, but hey who cares!? Well I do, and there are many people like me who actually do.

Let's look at the types of hoaxes you come across your social media on daily basis, and you choose to ignore or bypass it with a click of like or share. Beware that such hoaxes can be found in your mail inbox too which you're asked to forward to your contacts. But here we will concentrate only on the Facebook hoaxes.

1. Baby affected with cancer or tumor:

These are the most common kind of hoaxes we come across on Facebook. A disturbing image of a suffering baby is put up to gain sympathy. The actual story is however completely different. These kind of posts are created for no reasons but to collect as many likes and shares as they can. Such people are labeled as likewhores, which is totally appropriate if you ask me. This vile activity is carried forward, without actual knowledge of situation and idiocracy of several community pages on Facebook.

The picture on the left is of baby Isabel, who suffered from rare sarcoma tumor which was removed on April 2012. I have been also told by some people, what is the harm for liking or sharing even if it is fake. Well imagine your own baby suffering from such condition which, after long and ever haunting procedure is finally treated. And after months you come across your baby's image on your Facebook wall. It causes trauma and mental stress to the family members, and since liking or sharing such images doesn't do any help whatsoever with the treatment or recovery of the affected, helping the likewhores doesn't do any help.

2. Birds die from eating discarded gum:

Someone wisely said, Google before you Tweet is the new Think before you Speak. Apply the same principle here. Can birds really die from eating gums? Do birds really directly swallow a bread directly, just like that? Well they don't.

As an expert from Lake Tobias Wildlife Park said "It is unlikely that they would even try to eat it, they might peck at it once or twice but realize it is not something they don't want to eat. We've never had a bird die from eating gum." Another expert at ZooAmerica from Hershey said "Chewing gum, in and of itself, is not and would not be a fatal substance for a bird to ingest and may draw some birds interest. However, there are many variables, and we know better than to say anything could never happen. It is conceivable that a very small bird could attempt to eat a very large piece of gum. Obviously anything that might be large enough to lodge in an airway, be it bird or human, can be a problem."

Also, the image of the dead tiny bird (from another source) is said to be died by getting hit by a car. So from now on I think you would just use a bit of your brain and more of the technology, rather than spreading rumors.

3. Little girl with huge belly (Facebook will donate $1 for each like/share)

For obvious reasons I chose not to attach the picture here. But the fact again remains the same. If Facebook wanted to donate or do charity, it won't chose such alternatives. Moreover it is highly unlikely that  certain picture or status is tracked for likes/shares with intention to calculate the amount for donation.

The photograph used in this hoax is of a young girl from china named Hu Yunxing. She was suffering from Budd-Chiari Syndrome which caused the condition. Reports state that Hu Yunxing had gone through surgery  on February 2011, and her belly's circumference was reduced from 108 cm to 40 cm. The image of the child was used by like-whores for vile intention of getting like/share on their post, without the permission of the child's parents. Beware that, circulating or entertaining such posts will not do any good but instead add success to such sickopaths who use such means to get attention.

I rest my case here.

If you don't have a Valentine on Valentine's day; don't be sad. Most people don't have Aids on World Aids day as well...

Whenever a woman says “do whatever you want” do NOT do whatever you want.

I have never understood why women love cats. Cats are independent, they don't listen, they don't come in when you call, they like to stay out all night, and when they're home they like to be left alone and sleep. In other words, every quality that women hate in a man, they love in a cat.

I told my boss, if you don't raise my salary m gonna tell my colleagues that you raised my salary.

A vacuum cleaner salesman knocked and entered the house. For demonstration he dropped cow dung on the carpet and claimed "if i can't clean this shit in 60 seconds with my vacuum cleaner, i will eat it!!"
Owner of the house: Do you want ketchup with it?
Salesman: No! Why!?
Owner: There's no electricity.

After any argument, our mind starts producing clever and knock out things we should have said.

That awkward moment when the one time you raise your hand, some ass screams the answer out anyway.

A passenger touched the taxi driver on the shoulder to ask him to stop. The driver screamed, lost control, nearly hit a bus, went up on the footpath, & smashed against a wall.
Then the driver said: Don't you ever do that again, you scared me!
The passenger asked: How did a little touch scare u so much?
Driver replied: Its my first day as a taxi driver. I've been driving a van carrying Dead Bodies for the last 25 years.

-Will that help me
-No. but it will prevent you from such thoughts.

Not finding your mom in super market? No matter what age you're, it's always a reason to panic!!

Reasons, why I still hate dogs!

But I really, really want to hate dogs for the main cause of Rabies they are!

Well, smarty pants, ever heard of vaccination? Get your society dogs vaccinated against stray dogs. Its free and takes only one or two phone calls to local N.G.O. or municipal corporations. Rabies is caused by saliva of ‘infected dogs’. However, since it is not possible to tell from infected dogs to normal ones except for those who are severely infected. Also the main cause of spread in rabies within dogs is because of the fights between dogs. When an infected dog bites another during fights, the other dog becomes infected with rabies too. Why do fights happen?

There are mainly two reasons:
  • When a dog relocated from one location to another: This reason is due to 99% fault of humans. Those who don’t want to kill dogs, take them and put them in another territory. In other territory the dog becomes hostile and other dog of that territory attack. This results in fight which leads to bites and thus spreading of rabies. So, never encourage relocation of dogs. It is worse than killing of dog.
  • Due to mating season: Now this is law of nature, where in a pack of animal there is a leader who always gets food and the lady FIRST! But sometimes there are other wannabe doggies who want to challenge the bozo and thus end up fighting and thus spread rabies between themselves. There are two ways to prevent them: (a) Either make sure your and the surround colony dogs are totally and 100% vaccinated, which is highly unlikely to ensure. (b) Or, sterilize as well as vaccinated your colony dogs. The sterilization technique we follow these days still makes the bitch go in heat. But, if the male doggies won’t have balls, they eventually won’t fight. Also you can Anti Rabies vaccinate yourself like you did for polio. Its just another prick on your skin for survival.
Turn around, let me mark my territory.
Now, what you need to know next is about the territory of dogs. Just like there are countries, states, cities, sectors, colonies and at last house? Wtf? Well no, when it comes to dogs, its either this or that territory. The area of territory depends on the size of pack and it is relative to the neighboring packs too. So suppose in a pack there are 20 dogs and they share food of 2 colonies, that means there is ample food for 20 dogs, 21st dog won’t be allowed in that territory. If he enters, or forced to enter, he will be dealt like a terrorist. But if a dog dies in that territory, this creates a vacuum in that area for 1 dog. In simple language, there is food for another dog and he may come in. But that vacuum remains for a week or ten days. Then and then only another dog is allowed to share the food. They mark their territory with their urine. Not with barbed wires like us. Cool and cost effective, right? So hate them for peeing on your tire or your compound wall, but they are actually bordering it and protecting that area so that other dogs won’t enter without permission.

Coming over to a sensitive topic, Religion. I would like to start with Islam, since dogs are hated most in Islam. It is said that the angels(farishtey) don’t enter the house where dogs are. It is also said that dogs like pigs are dirty creatures. I have got some news for you:

  • It is not haraam (unethical or illegal) to keep a dog in your house. It is also not haraam to touch the dog or if the dog licks you or your clothing or any articles. If the dog has licked you or your articles you can wash them seven times and you will be pure again.
  • It is mandatory, to those who own a dog for work, farming, security or as pets to provide them with proper food and shelter by all means. It is haraam to keep the dog caged/tied up, thus forfeiting his natural way of living. It is also haraam to expose him to fireworks or any such environments which may cause harm or anxiety to the dog. In case, you’re leaving house for short period, such as vacation, the dog’s care taking has to be arranged.
  • It is also haraam to engage dog in blood sport such as dog fighting.
  • No animal has been cursed in any way. Animals are referred to in many instances in the Qu’ran. In Surah Kahf, mention is made of the companions of the Cave and their dog. (S18: 18-22)
  • "While a man was walking he felt thirsty and went down a well, and drank water from it. On coming out of it, he saw a dog panting and eating mud because of excessive thirst. The man said, 'This (dog) is suffering from the same problem as that of mine.' So, he (went down the well), filled his shoe with water, caught hold of it with his teeth and climbed up and watered the dog. Allah thanked him for his (good) deed and forgave him. The people asked ``O Allah'! Is there a reward for us in serving (the) animals? He replied: ``Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate (living being).
  • A dog, as every other living [being] on this earth, is a part of Allah's creation. We, as Muslims, are custodians of this beautiful planet. A dog, if in our possession, as with everything else we claim to own, belongs ultimately to Allah (swt). We will be accountable for how we look after our animals and what we use them for, to Almighty Allah (swt). All of creation is Muslim, submitting to the will of Allah (swt), only man and jinn are granted a freedom of choice. So yes, even animals are Muslim.

Moving towards Hinduism. Where there are million gods worshipped on daily basis. How could you forget the teaching of Lord Krishna, who told us to be kind towards all animals, wild and domestic? Lord Bhairava who had a black dog as his vaahan (vehicle). Most of you don’t know that dogs are considered guards of gates between heaven and hell in many Hindu scriptures.

In Christianity, there are so many instances in bible where dogs are mentioned. A dog is mentioned in the deuterocanonical Book of Tobit, faithfully accompanying Tobias, Tobit's son and the angel Raphael on their journeys.

Jesus told the story of the poor man Lazarus, whose sores were licked by street dogs. This has traditionally been seen as showing Lazarus's wretched situation.

The Catholic Church recognizes Saint Roch (also called Saint Rocco), who lived in the early 14th century in France, as the patron saint of dogs. It is said that he caught the plague while doing charitable work and went into the forest, expecting to die. There he was befriended by a dog which licked his sores and brought him food, and he was able to recover. The feast day of Saint Roch, August 16, is celebrated in Bolivia as the "birthday of all dogs."

I rest my case.

Reasons, Why I hate dogs!

Hate is such a strong word. But people use it as often as they can – “I hate cabbage!” “I hate to exercise!” “I hate when my Mom re arranges my stuff!” The reason why people use the word ‘hate’ so much is because they use the word ‘love’ more than it should be. In fact, from what I felt, the word ‘like’ would have been extinct if not for Facebook.

So when people often say “I hate dogs!” What does that actually mean?  You have to be in their shoes to answer that question. So, let’s say “I hate dogs!” “Why?”

They bark, they bite, they chase your automobile at night, they litter in your residential areas and they … they … they are just worst creatures on earth!! That’s it.
In India, they hate dogs because they howl. Because if a dog howls, a person nearby dies. Wow doggies! Some real superpower you got there in your throat. Well, howling (misunderstood as crying) is a like a doggy cell phone or radio. It is a medium of long range communication for them. Wolves do it too! They do it either to warn their pack about some stranger, they do it to call their pack for hunting, they can also howl if they get separated by their pack or owners. They express this separation anxiety through howling.

Died due to dog howling!
Place where there are stray dogs, it is healthy for us to keep them there. They work as scavengers (better than municipality actually) and eat up garbage, which can cause serious health issues if they get rotten. They also keep the rat population under control. If you remove strays from such areas and not clean the place efficiently, rat population increases. Behind rats come snakes. Now do you prefer to have stray snakes? Or stray dogs? Your choice.

Since the beginning of the time, i.e. when your ancestors ruled the place, they kept dogs as companions or for security from wild animals. Dogs are used to be around human beings since the beginning of time. And for some reasons they love company of humans more than their own kind. In return they provide you with safety and eliminate a lot of diseases with their scavenging. So if a dog bites you, keep in mind it is protecting something/itself. Or you were doing something you weren’t supposed to be doing. Like walking like a drunkard. Making more than enough sound with the sole of your shoes, or maybe he just didn’t like your stupid face (in that case it is OK to hate him, because he hates you too).

There are few things to keep in mind when you are approaching or going through an unknown dog’s territory.

For more information watch this amazing video I made for VSPCA and ABC India.

  •  Do not look the dog in the eye. Its like challenge to fight for them.
  •  If the dog is lying/resting don’t walk with loud shoes or do not try to jump over him or do not try to throw stones at him. Remember when your mom wakes you up in the morning, how grumpy you are? Yea, so don’t do that.
  • If you know there is a pregnant or mother dog nearby. Do not go through that area. I know puppies are cute and irresistible but do not go try to cuddle with them.  Dog mommies are very overprotective. Also warn the children not to do so.
  • Throwing stones at dogs is easy. Just till you find a dog who is ‘having his day’. I don’t even want to describe your condition after the dog will be done with u. Just remember dog’s head is aligned straight to your crotch and buttocks.
  • Like you are very protective about your underwear, a dog is protective of its tail. So don’t pull or touch it.
  • Do not drive past dogs with speed or they will chase you. Remember? When that guy cut through your motorbike on the highway with full speed, almost startled you. I am sure your mouth didn’t shower flower after he did that. And if you do, and the dog chases your bike/car, don’t hate the dog.

Now, play with me!
Now, I explained these to my neighbor and his reply was “Why should I take so much pain, I would rather use a stick instead.” The reason why most dogs bite are not because of aggression but due to fear, or to protect themselves. It means they surely don’t trust you and have developed a gene inside which fears you when you approach them in wrong manner or with wrong body language. Dog lovers get bitten too. Dogs aren’t racists. So your act of hitting dog is passed on to biting someone else. Easiest way to befriend a dog is to feed him. No don’t pamper him if you don’t want to. Just drop a few bread crumbs near your house and let the dog see that you dropped them. Repeat this process for a few days. Viola! The dog trusts you and will never harm you.

I went to attend a very strange complaint but very legitimate one. An extreme playful dog was jumping on people (to play with them) but in process was scaring shit out of the strangers. So they ‘hated’ the dog for being too friendly. So if you’re feeding a dog, keep distance. Jumping or putting his paws on you might be cute for you but not for others. And the dog automatically assumes, what he can do to you, he can do to others too.

“Why do you feed dogs? I hate when you feed them near our house, they come every day and litter here and there. They are so dirty and nasty creatures. If you want them, keep them in your house.” Your neighbor must have complained. In such cases, give him a big smile and tell him:
  • First of all it is illegal to threaten, abuse or harass dog feeders/care takers under Section 506 Indian penal court act. The court has termed feeding of animals as social service and any person obstructing this shall be prosecuted and the police shall be deemed to protect such social activists.
  • Under Section 428/429 Indian penal court act it is illegal to harm, hurt, poison, hit, harass or kill any animal.
  • It is illegal to relocate dogs from their original territory under AWBI dog rules 2001.
  • One pair of rat can multiply up to 35,000. Remember the 1994 plague in Surat (Gujarat)? The main cause was due to rats! Rats dying and rotting in gutter.
  • Most and foremost reason why the dogs must stay there is because not you, but they and their ancestors have been living and guarding these lands. Just because they have agreed to share their land with you shouldn’t make you such a butthole.
